Processes for Statements Regarding Cooperation and Letters Regarding Sentencing

In cooperation with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Office of Federal Public Defender, the Court has established a process for creating a sealed record in all criminal cases so that a defendant's cooperation, or lack thereof, cannot be determined from the public record.

The Court has also instituted a process for written communication to the Court about defendants. All written communication submitted to the District Court in criminal cases about any defendant will be electronically available for viewing at the public terminal in the Clerk's Office, absent a motion submitted to the Court stating the reasons why the written communication must not be made available at the public terminal.

Details about these processes can be found in Local Rule 13.05, Pleadings and Documents Filed Under Seal, and in the attachments below.
