On February 12, 2020, the United States Senate confirmed Matthew T. Schelp as the next District Judge for Eastern District of Missouri. Schelp will begin his tenure as a District Judge immediately after District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr. takes senior status on August 1, 2020. Schelp will be located primarily in St. Louis, while Limbaugh will continue to serve the Court in active senior status while being based primarily in Cape Girardeau.

Schelp has served in a variety of roles in both the public and private sector. He is currently a partner at the firm of Husch Blackwell, where he focuses on government compliance, investigations and litigation. Prior to his time at Husch Blackwell, Schelp served as an Assistant United States Attorney, and as a Judge Advocate in the United States Navy’s Judge Advocate General Corps. Schelp received both his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Missouri.

Chief Judge Rodney W. Sippel welcomed Schelp to the Court, stating, “We are pleased that Matt Schelp is joining our Court family. His prior experience in both federal criminal and civil matters will serve him well in his new role as District Judge. We also thank Judge Limbaugh for his invaluable service to this Court and are pleased that he will continue that service as an active Senior District Judge.”
